Pastors Conference 2019
Pastors and church leaders are invited to attend a conference on the topic of Foundations of Faith and Ministry sponsored by Can Do Kids International. You will find descriptions of the sessions and speaker information below. The conference is being offered three different times and you can choose which is best for you. It is free and includes a morning/afternoon tea and lunch but you must register as it will be open on a first-come, first-served basis as there is limited space.

Pastor Wes Ooms is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and has served as Senior Pastor of Community Bible Fellowship of El Paso since he helped found the church in the late 1980’s. In addition to experience in just about every aspect of local pastoral ministry, Wes has a passion for encouraging and training pastors. He has helped train thousands of pastors in Europe and Africa over the past 20 years. Wes began working with Kenyan pastors in 2016, and his session will encourage participants to look to God and His word in all areas of ministry and life (not just Sunday morning preaching).
Bryan Osborne is an author and international speaker with Answers in Genesis (which includes the Creation Museum and The Ark Encounter). Answers in Genesis exists to proclaim and defend the authority of God’s Word and the gospel from the very first verse. Without compromise or apology, AiG boldly and lovingly uses apologetics to equip believers to defend the Christian faith and challenge nonbelievers with the truth of God’s Word. Bryan holds a master’s degree in education from Lee University. Bryan taught Bible history in public school for 13 years and has been teaching Christian apologetics for nearly 20 years

Alex Brucker is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who received his Master’s Degree (M. A.) in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University. He has built a successful clinical practice counseling from a biblical perspective. His presentation will focus on the Biblical foundation for counseling. Basically, it will be “Counseling 101” for pastors to help them answer the question, “Someone comes to you with a problem, what do you do?”
Your Conference Host:
Karanja Mburu Wamatangi, better known as “JJ” to Americans and “Wamatangi” to Kenyans is responsible for bringing Can Do Kids to Kenya. He currently serves as Executive Director of Can Do Kids Kenya. Karanja was born in the Murang’a area and moved to the US to further his education. Karanja has worked in quality control, plant management, and product formulation for more than a decade at Seneca Foods, one of the world’s leading food processors. His employer gave Karanja much flexibility so he could work part of the year in the US and spend a significant part of the year in Kenya. In Kenya, he has helped start and lead Can Do Kids Clubs, churches, and businesses. Under his leadership, Can Do Kids has brought water tanks to 15 public schools, feeding programs, sports outreach, and numerous other projects to bring God’s love to children and their communities. Karanja’s passion is help kids like himself, escape poverty and establish lifelong relationship with the LORD where they will experience God’s love, learn God’s word, and choose God’s ways.
Your Conference Host:
Tom Roth is Director of Operations for Can Do Kids International and its efforts in the US, Eastern Europe, East Africa, and Asia. He was part of the initial prayer meetings where the idea of CDK was birthed and he served as volunteer with the organization and local clubs. His company provided the facilities, overhead, and operational services for CDK’s first 10 years. In 2018 he joined the staff full time in his current role. Tom credits Bible Study Fellowship for much of his training in children’s ministry. He is in his third decade of leadership at BSF, having been the class administrator before becoming a children’s leader. Tom grew up and worked in the dairy industry 25 years before starting his own photography and videography business in Illinois. He holds two degrees in agriculture from Penn State. Tom has been involved in CDK’s work in Kenya since it started in 2012, including all of CDK’s pastor training. Tom is a husband to CDK’s co-founder and father of two college-aged daughters who regularly volunteer with CDK.
