When God Takes Us to Unexpected Places!

“Going Unexpected Places” could be the title of a book documenting the Can Do Kids International story! And landing in Philippines would certainly be one of the many chapters!

The connection came through a CDK board member who had met a pastor, Robin Cabasan, from Philippines through his church in North Carolina. He had known Robin for awhile and wanted us to meet him. It turned out Robin was driving through our area in March 2018 so we met at a restaurant over lunch. We told him about our Can Do Kids story and he shared his passion to reach children and their families in his community.

In addition, CDK founder Richard Scheuermann had a special heart for Philippines. During his time in the US Marines, he had been stationed in Philippines. While there, he helped plant a church that continues to thrive today, 60 years later! To be able to bring Can Do Kids to Philippines was a dream come true for Richard.

It wasn’t too much further down the road that plans were made to start a Can Do Kids Club in Philippines. We agreed to empower Robin’s church family, Open Door Baptist Church, Bangued, Abra, to reach kids by providing some items from our “toolkit” - CDK identity/curriculum/ideas and funding as needed for special projects. The club started in April 2019 with around 80 kids and continued through the pandemic, reaching around 250 kids weekly three years later!
